A neck can change in three ways, and the way yours has changed decides the treatment. Fullness gathers under the chin. Skin loosens and begins to hang. The muscle beneath slackens and shows as two bands running down the front.

A neck lift is for the loose skin and the bands. We offer it on its own or together with a facelift, and your surgeon tells you which your neck needs.

Which Treatment Your Neck Needs

What helps depends on what you see in the mirror.

ConcernWhat helpsFrom
A little loosenessUltherapy, which lifts without surgery฿10,000
Fullness under the chin, skin still firmChin liposuction฿40,000
Loose skin, or bands down the front of the neckA neck lift฿100,000

Your surgeon decides the route at your assessment, and it can be a combination, since fullness and loose skin often come together.

How a Neck Lift Works

The muscle at the front of your neck, the platysma, continues up into the deeper layer of the face, called the SMAS. When that layer slackens, the line between jaw and neck softens, and the muscle can show as two bands down the front.

Your surgeon works in that deeper layer, then trims the skin left over. Because that layer does most of the lifting, a good neck lift looks natural rather than pulled.

The same layer runs up into the lower face, so a neck lift often improves jowls too. For heavier jowls a facelift usually does more, which is why jowls along the jaw often mean face and neck together.

You may also see a neck lift called a lower rhytidectomy. Platysmaplasty, which tightens the neck muscle, is usually one part of it.

What a Neck Lift Costs

A neck lift on its own starts at ฿100,000. The full face and neck together is ฿320,000, priced as one operation.

The upper, mid and lower face are each priced separately as part of a facelift.

Who a Neck Lift Suits

There is no single right age for a neck lift, and your neck tells us more than your birth year does.

If your neck has loosened or the bands have started to show, you are in the range a neck lift is made for, whatever your age.

Smoking, a history of keloid scarring and some medical conditions affect whether surgery is safe for you and how well you heal. Your surgeon checks all of these at your assessment.

Meet Our Neck Lift Surgeon

Your neck lift is performed by Dr. Pawalin “Palm” Chuenputhi, MD, Medical Council of Thailand ว.31884. She has 21 years of experience and is board certified in both general surgery and plastic surgery.

She earned her medical degree at Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University. She has since trained in South Korea, Taiwan and the United States in endoscopic facelift techniques and deep-structure facial lifting.

In surgery, she works on the SMAS layer and the tissue that supports it. In some cases she uses Endotine, a dissolving implant that helps hold lifted tissue in place. She decides which approach suits you once she has seen how your face and neck sit.

Her aim, in her own words:

“Good surgery should not change someone’s face. It should restore the confidence that fades over time, so the person looks like themselves at their best, not like a different person.”

What Happens on the Day

You have your neck lift at our surgical facility in Ekkamai, under general anesthetic, so you are asleep throughout.

Before the day, your surgeon goes through the plan with you again: what she is treating, where the incisions sit, and what to expect when the dressings come off. She also tells you how long your operation will take.

On the day, you arrive, are prepared for surgery, and wake up in recovery with your neck dressed.

Recovery

Your neck feels tight at first, and the swelling and bruising settle gradually over the weeks that follow. You wear a compression garment to help with the swelling.

Your surgeon takes the stitches out at a check, then signs you off once she is happy with how you are healing. The scars fade over the months after that.

If you have a big event coming up, leave a few weeks between it and your surgery so the swelling has settled.

Coming to Bangkok for Surgery

Plan on at least seven days in Bangkok. That is when your surgeon can usually check your healing and clear you to fly. The risk of blood clots stays raised for several weeks after surgery, so keep moving on a long flight home.

Once you are home, follow-up carries on by video at about 30, 60 and 120 days. If you have a problem at home, our doctor writes a surgical report for your local doctor. You can also message your original consultant at any time, 24 hours a day, on the same channel you used to book.

Risks

A neck lift is surgery, and surgery carries risks you should know about before you decide. The main ones are:

  • Bleeding under the skin
  • Infection
  • Scarring
  • Skin loss
  • Numbness
  • Rarely, nerve injury, blood clots or a reaction to the anesthetic

Your surgeon goes through each of these with you at your consultation, so you know what to look for while you heal.

Choosing a Clinic for a Neck Lift in Thailand

Whichever clinic you are considering, four things are worth checking before you commit. Here is how each one looks at KKC Clinic:

  • Who will operate: Dr. Pawalin “Palm” Chuenputhi, MD, Medical Council of Thailand ว.31884.
  • Where the operation takes place: our surgical facility in Ekkamai.
  • What the quoted price covers: your surgeon gives you a full quote at your consultation, so you know the cost before you commit.
  • How follow-up works once you fly home: by video at about 30, 60 and 120 days, with your consultant a message away.

Frequently Asked Questions

There is no single right age. Most people who have a neck lift are between their mid-50s and late 60s. Your skin quality and general health matter more than the year on your passport.

Yes. A turkey neck is loose skin, often with the muscle bands showing through it, and those two are exactly what a neck lift treats. Your surgeon lifts the layer beneath and removes the loose skin, which brings back the line from jaw to neck.

Often, yes, because the layer a neck lift raises runs up into the lower face. For heavier jowls a facelift usually does more.

It depends on your skin. If the fullness is fat and your skin is still firm, chin liposuction may be all you need. If the skin has loosened or bands show, a neck lift is usually the better fit, and your surgeon tells you at your assessment whether you need one or both.

Around and behind the ears, often with a short one under the chin, where hair and natural creases help hide them. How long the incisions are depends on how much skin your surgeon needs to remove, and the scars typically fade over about a year.

Results typically last for years. Your neck keeps aging from its new starting point, so the change softens gradually over time.

Most people describe the discomfort as mild to moderate, and your surgeon prescribes medication to manage it. In the first week the tightness and swelling tend to bother people more than pain does.

For the first few weeks, avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise, and try not to bend or twist your neck. Keeping your head raised above your heart helps the swelling go down. Your surgeon goes through your full aftercare with you before you leave.

At least seven days. That is when your surgeon can usually check your healing and clear you to fly. A long flight home is one reason to stay longer.

Usually, yes. Face and neck are routinely done together, and Dr. Palm also performs eyelid surgery. What limits a combination is the total time under anesthetic and your health, and your surgeon decides at your assessment.
